The androgynous fashion

Tibi Pre-Fall 2014

I have never really thought about what 'my style' is much before Christmas of 2013. I kind of always thought my style consists of the things that 'I like', without the things that 'I like' needing to fit into a sub-category of fashion. But over Christmas my dad happened to come out with a couple of comments about how my style is very 'boyfriend like' and 'oversized' which got me thinking. 1. My dad is noticing my style and 2. Do I in fact fit into a sub-category of fashion, or is there just not much else to chose from ??

I realise MY blog is MY scrapbook where I post things that I like and what I don't like doesn't make it onto the blog, so am I therefore the reason all my posts follow the same routine or is the fashion world not giving me much choice? Yes, in Fall we want layers and layers calls for bigger garments, but whilst looking through the Pre-Fall 14 collections there was but a few designers who had not purposely made clothing too big for the true female form. Why are we all buying clothes to drape over our bodies, rather than to accentuate them like they did back in the day? Why is dressing in a masculine way becoming more fashionable and more appealing to us women? Soon are we going to be so androgynous that there will be no need to separate men and women's stores and menswear and womenswear will just become one androgynous catwalk show? … It's not like you see man walking around in mini skirts and heels (bar the few cross dressing Alex Reids), could this be a deeper physiological issue about how we as women are still striving for equality and so now we have taken to dress to display our rights...

Anyone looking for a Dissertation topic? Because theres one right there !

All I know is that the styles I am drawn to are the styles which I think will suit me. Is this a subconscious trend generated thought, or a subconscious equality generated thought, who knows … I've probably just eaten too much turkey over Christmas….

Phillip Lim Pre-Fall 2014

Phillip Lim Pre-Fall 2014

I must admit daring color combos are not my forte- Enter Phillip Lim who clearly knows exactly what he is doing when it comes to mixing colors and textures. Don't you agree that his Pre-Fall 14 collection just makes you want to go touch every garment just to feel how soft, velvety and expensive they feel- well it does me and if you get the same urge PLEASE make sure that cronut you secretly scoffed after lunch isn't still present on your finger tips, we don't want any immaculate works of art tarnished by grubby little fingers.

Dogwalk

Mulberry S/S 2014

Mulberry's British (of course) Bulldog named Turbo had his time to shine this season as he strutted his stuff down the Mulberry S/S 14 catwalk. With his own canine garments Turbo showed that dogs can do it just as well, if not better, than those cats. Just look at that chubby little face, talk about pulling at the heart strings of dog lovers worldwide.

Although the dog may have been my main interest in the show, Mulberry also displayed a very chic, sporty and clean collection with wide cropped culottes, sophisticated prints and simple t-shirt shapes. Masculine to the right degree this show was right down my street, dogs and all.

Wang Pre-Fall 2014

Alexander Wang Pre-Fall 2014
Boyish, trim, modern equestrian girls who are on top of their shit.
Wang's Pre-fall 14 collection stays true to his recognizable minimalist masculine shapes. He has transported our temptations into a world of equestrian chic, check out those oversized riding boots, a winner for both day and night. With the clean simple lines making a big statement and his colors not straying from the neutral palette, apart from a couple of cheeky pops of neon, Wang has created a truly on trend, wearable and desirable collection to tease us with this Fall.
Great start to 2014.

Snow day preparations

While New York is preparing for the cold by stocking up on food supplies and finding that perfect pair of snow boots, I am busy making my own snow day preparations. *See above image* Can you really tell me something that would more enjoyable and snuggly on a snow day than a gorgeous male in a wooly jumper. Really boys go buy those ribbed knits, it will make your snow day all that more cosy.
